House Tours | Traditional Minnesota Cottage

Time for another house tour and this livable home renovation by Bria Hammel and her talented design team expresses a fresh take on a traditional cottage. When this retired couple settled in 20 years ago, they knew it would be the perfect home to raise their family and later grandchildren. And to make their home more suitable for their growing family parties, and lighten up their once dated aesthetic, Hammel tackled the interiors with fresh coats of paint, new lighting, and flooring. Realizing the home had solid bones and millwork, there was no need for major structural changes. Luckily, new furnishings, art, and natural solid surfaces were all this cottage required to bring it into the new decade. And I love it! One of my favorite decisions Hammel chose, is the paint color of the entire 1st floor— Benjamin Moore’s Coventry Gray. It reads a soft, pale blue that’s so warm and inviting against the creamy trim and cabinetry.

My next favorite is the eclectic use of plaid and stripes throughout parts of the home.
